[00:01:50] [SPEAKER_02]: On today we have a special guest with us.
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_02]: We have Mrs. Robin Muhammad, who's here to talk to us about nutrition.
[00:01:59] [SPEAKER_02]: We have Robin and Scott join us previously to tell us about their beautiful love story.
[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_02]: And so now Robin is going to share with us her passion for all things nutrition
[00:02:13] [SPEAKER_02]: and health and wellness.
[00:02:16] [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_02]: You're welcome.
[00:02:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for joining us.
[00:02:20] [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
[00:02:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Robin, we have been nosy enough and you have told us all about you guys' love story.
[00:02:28] [SPEAKER_00]: And that's fantastic.
[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:02:33] [SPEAKER_00]: The original reason why we connected.
[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_00]: You wanted to talk about marriage at first.
[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm glad we did that.
[00:02:44] [SPEAKER_00]: But I want to sit up to talk about you.
[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_00]: You got started in your passion.
[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_01]: In my passion.
[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, let's talk about that.
[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_01]: And thank you for having Scott and I before.
[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Most of the time I am talking about nutrition.
[00:02:57] [SPEAKER_01]: So whenever I get a chance to talk about love,
[00:03:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm talking about love for food and nutrition.
[00:03:04] [SPEAKER_01]: But that was fun to talk about that.
[00:03:08] [SPEAKER_01]: But so let me just say this.
[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't born passionate about food or nutrition.
[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was at one point in my life, so I'm 49.
[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_01]: So growing up, I had no clue about food and nutrition.
[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I was pre-diabetic.
[00:03:22] [SPEAKER_01]: I was overweight.
[00:03:24] [SPEAKER_01]: And I would just eat a lot of bread because I thought bread is low fat.
[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was counting calories and I was doing all these things.
[00:03:33] [SPEAKER_01]: So I had no clue.
[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And I passed out in my early 20s.
[00:03:38] [SPEAKER_01]: My blood sugar was out of control.
[00:03:41] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was driving.
[00:03:44] [SPEAKER_01]: So I kind of don't even remember some of it.
[00:03:45] [SPEAKER_01]: But I was driving and then I was off on the side of the road.
[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_01]: And I went to the doctor eventually,
[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_01]: and they told me that I had some blood sugar issues.
[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_01]: And that I should, I just remember them saying,
[00:03:59] [SPEAKER_01]: I should drink something sugary or eat some candy or something.
[00:04:04] [SPEAKER_01]: And I thought, that's probably how it happened in the first place.
[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_01]: They just didn't give me a solution to me.
[00:04:11] [SPEAKER_01]: And I didn't really have a solution.
[00:04:14] [SPEAKER_01]: And years went past, actually.
[00:04:17] [SPEAKER_01]: And at 30 years old, I had a daughter.
[00:04:21] [SPEAKER_01]: And I thought, I've been blessed with this child
[00:04:24] [SPEAKER_01]: and I have no clue about how to feed her.
[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_01]: I did not cook.
[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_01]: I warmed up food out of the can.
[00:04:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't eat vegetables.
[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't do any of that.
[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_01]: But I felt like I needed to respect the blessing
[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_01]: that I was given with this child.
[00:04:38] [SPEAKER_01]: And because I was overweight, my mom was overweight,
[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_01]: and it was just the way it was, I thought, this can't be.
[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_01]: So I actually started to try to figure out
[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_01]: what to feed my daughter.
[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_01]: And in that journey is when I discovered
[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_01]: that food will either kill you or keep you alive.
[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_01]: That the illnesses and diseases we face
[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_01]: are really a due part of what you put in your mouth
[00:05:06] [SPEAKER_01]: or what you don't put in your mouth.
[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_01]: To make that long story short, I hired a nutrition coach.
[00:05:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, I went to college, I had a whole career.
[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't thinking of having a career in nutrition at all.
[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I had a nutrition coach and it changed my life
[00:05:24] [SPEAKER_01]: because I began to learn about what food was doing
[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_01]: in my body and the weight came off
[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_01]: when I learned some of the biggest mistakes
[00:05:34] [SPEAKER_01]: that I was making, which I'll share with you all.
[00:05:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Some of the biggest nutrition mistakes that people make.
[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_01]: And so when the weight came off, my blood sugar balance,
[00:05:44] [SPEAKER_01]: all the things got in order
[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_01]: and I was able to feed my baby.
[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_01]: And today my daughter is almost 19 and she eats,
[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm proud of who she is
[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_01]: because she didn't know me any other way.
[00:05:58] [SPEAKER_01]: And that's what started my journey and my passion.
[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_01]: And I started to just talk to people,
[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_01]: everyone that I knew and I'm like,
[00:06:05] [SPEAKER_01]: let me tell you what I learned.
[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Let me tell you.
[00:06:07] [SPEAKER_01]: And then people started saying,
[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_01]: well, can you help me lose weight?
[00:06:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Can you help me with my nutrition?
[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I was thinking, no,
[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_01]: that ain't what I'm supposed to be doing.
[00:06:14] [SPEAKER_01]: No, I cannot do that actually.
[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_01]: And it just kept happening and I helped my mom
[00:06:20] [SPEAKER_01]: and then long story short, I was like, okay,
[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_01]: I think this is, I'm onto something.
[00:06:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I went back to school officially so I would be certified
[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_01]: because I knew people would be like,
[00:06:29] [SPEAKER_01]: well, what if, do you have education
[00:06:31] [SPEAKER_01]: and what do you, all of that.
[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_01]: So I went back to school and it's been 16 years now
[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_01]: that I've been helping people, others use food
[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_01]: and nutrition to build their mind and their body.
[00:06:47] [SPEAKER_01]: If food runs our life and the truth is
[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_01]: is that if we don't understand it
[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_01]: and we don't get a hold of it,
[00:06:56] [SPEAKER_01]: we won't be able to live our best life long-term.
[00:07:01] [SPEAKER_01]: You can live it temporarily in pleasure,
[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_01]: but long-term it's going to come and get you.
[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_01]: And what's tricky about food,
[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_01]: and I'll say this and then I'll pause for a minute
[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_01]: because you may have some questions
[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_01]: before we get into the biggest mistakes,
[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_01]: but with food, you eat something
[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_01]: and it does not generally right away cause an issue.
[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Like you eat something fried or what have you
[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_01]: and right then and there that day,
[00:07:33] [SPEAKER_01]: it maybe does not give you a heart attack that day.
[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Like right then and there,
[00:07:36] [SPEAKER_01]: or you eat a piece of cheesecake
[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_01]: and right then and there that day,
[00:07:41] [SPEAKER_01]: maybe it does raise your blood sugar,
[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_01]: but right then it doesn't do you in.
[00:07:44] [SPEAKER_01]: But is that compound of sex over time,
[00:07:47] [SPEAKER_01]: over time, over time that challenges us
[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_01]: and food is so good and it's so pleasurable.
[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh yes.
[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to believe or hard to want to believe
[00:07:59] [SPEAKER_01]: that this thing that may not be serving us long-term
[00:08:04] [SPEAKER_01]: in that short term, you can't get past it.
[00:08:08] [SPEAKER_01]: You're like, let's go eat this right now.
[00:08:11] [SPEAKER_01]: And then later it may get you.
[00:08:14] [SPEAKER_01]: That's what's hard about it.
[00:08:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Food, you need it.
[00:08:17] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like if you're an alcoholic,
[00:08:19] [SPEAKER_01]: you don't have to be at the bar.
[00:08:22] [SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to.
[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_01]: But with food, you have to eat to sustain your life.
[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_01]: That's where it gets a little bit tricky.
[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm gonna stop right there
[00:08:32] [SPEAKER_01]: and see if you have questions for me.
[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And then I'll actually go into what nutrition is,
[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_01]: what it really is,
[00:08:41] [SPEAKER_01]: and then some of the mistakes that we make
[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_01]: and what to do about it.
[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Well, all of what you said,
[00:08:52] [SPEAKER_02]: you stepped on my toes a couple of times.
[00:08:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Ow, ow.
[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_02]: But I had a recent conversation with someone
[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_02]: and I was saying with food,
[00:09:01] [SPEAKER_02]: it's so difficult because you have to eat.
[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_02]: And for me, I'm very aware of my choices.
[00:09:10] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm very aware that I need to do better.
[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm very aware that when I eat better, I feel better.
[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_02]: It just doesn't click and stay.
[00:09:22] [SPEAKER_02]: I've had moments where I've done really well
[00:09:25] [SPEAKER_02]: for a long period of time.
[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_02]: I was vegetarian, easing into being a vegan
[00:09:32] [SPEAKER_02]: for almost a year.
[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_02]: And then I just wanted some pizza.
[00:09:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_02]: And I put pepperoni on it.
[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_02]: And that was, it's like once I took that turn,
[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_02]: there was no going back.
[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_02]: So everything that you've said really resonates with me.
[00:09:50] [SPEAKER_02]: The only thing that concerns me is that I'm at that age now.
[00:09:55] [SPEAKER_02]: I am 49.
[00:09:57] [SPEAKER_02]: So it's like, I know I need to do better
[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_02]: and time is shortening.
[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_02]: So making that click in the mind is where it is.
[00:10:10] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm gonna share with you,
[00:10:11] [SPEAKER_01]: and you said it doesn't click and it doesn't stay.
[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_01]: And I know that.
[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I know when I was working with clients one-on-one,
[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't work with clients one-on-one anymore
[00:10:21] [SPEAKER_01]: and I'll talk about that later,
[00:10:23] [SPEAKER_01]: but I would know statistically how many people,
[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_01]: if I had 10 people who would actually stick to it,
[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_01]: how long it would take them.
[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I got real good at knowing my numbers
[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_01]: because it is very, very difficult.
[00:10:38] [SPEAKER_01]: And it is like pushing a boulder up the hill.
[00:10:41] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's not actually designed,
[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_01]: let me say it this way.
[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_01]: The folks that provide us the food,
[00:10:50] [SPEAKER_01]: the pizza makers and the french fries
[00:10:53] [SPEAKER_01]: and all the stuff that's yummy to the tummy,
[00:10:56] [SPEAKER_01]: they're in the lab with chemicals,
[00:11:01] [SPEAKER_01]: with rats and mice and people and all the things testing
[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_01]: at what level can they make your brain turn on
[00:11:08] [SPEAKER_01]: to the point where you cannot say no.
[00:11:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Because people ask this question,
[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_01]: why can't I?
[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Where's the willpower?
[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_01]: So it is not even about you in that way.
[00:11:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Because once you turn it on,
[00:11:23] [SPEAKER_01]: once you eat that pizza,
[00:11:25] [SPEAKER_01]: your brain is gonna be like,
[00:11:26] [SPEAKER_01]: what, what, what, give me more, do more.
[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_01]: It is like not even in your control if you turn it on.
[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_01]: As I'm telling you again,
[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_01]: the chemicals are in there strategically for you
[00:11:41] [SPEAKER_01]: to get you.
[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_01]: So then the question becomes what to do about that.
[00:11:45] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm gonna share that in just a little bit,
[00:11:47] [SPEAKER_01]: but let me say what nutrition is and what it is not.
[00:11:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Nutrition is designed for building and repair in our body.
[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
[00:11:57] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's like what you eat,
[00:12:00] [SPEAKER_01]: is your body going to be able to extract vitamins
[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_01]: and nutrients from that in order to get into your cells
[00:12:07] [SPEAKER_01]: and then your body builds and repair.
[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_01]: So I always tell people that,
[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't like to say, don't eat this, don't eat that.
[00:12:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Nobody wants to hear that.
[00:12:16] [SPEAKER_01]: All I say is do eat.
[00:12:19] [SPEAKER_01]: So if on a daily you are flooding your body
[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_01]: with foods that are serving you,
[00:12:27] [SPEAKER_01]: foods that are serving you give you nutrients.
[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'll be simple with this.
[00:12:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's say it's fruits and vegetables.
[00:12:33] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll just keep it simple.
[00:12:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Fruits and vegetables,
[00:12:34] [SPEAKER_01]: like that doesn't go out of style.
[00:12:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Everybody knows that's good
[00:12:37] [SPEAKER_01]: because the nutrients in there serve ourselves.
[00:12:41] [SPEAKER_01]: So if a strategy could be
[00:12:45] [SPEAKER_01]: before you eat your whatever it is,
[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_01]: your pizza, your chicken, your whatever you like.
[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_01]: If you eat a big salad beforehand.
[00:12:55] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm using a salad as an example,
[00:12:57] [SPEAKER_01]: just cause it's easy right now.
[00:12:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Just eating that big salad.
[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_01]: So right then you're giving your body
[00:13:03] [SPEAKER_01]: the nutrients that it needs.
[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_01]: So it can use that.
[00:13:06] [SPEAKER_01]: And then if you, whatever room you have left,
[00:13:09] [SPEAKER_01]: cause I like french fries, right?
[00:13:11] [SPEAKER_01]: You have your french fries.
[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause it matters the order you eat your food.
[00:13:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Trust and believe that if you eat your food
[00:13:16] [SPEAKER_01]: in a certain order, not what you're eating,
[00:13:19] [SPEAKER_01]: but in a certain order, you will see a difference.
[00:13:22] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you had-
[00:13:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Never heard that.
[00:13:25] [SPEAKER_01]: You never heard that.
[00:13:26] [SPEAKER_01]: You know what?
[00:13:28] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna write that down too because,
[00:13:32] [SPEAKER_01]: so I'm gonna sell.
[00:13:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm a God girl and I'm gonna say this in this way.
[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna digress,
[00:13:36] [SPEAKER_01]: but I'm gonna come back to the order.
[00:13:39] [SPEAKER_01]: And I say I'm a God girl, not a church girl,
[00:13:42] [SPEAKER_01]: but I'm a God girl in this way.
[00:13:44] [SPEAKER_01]: And I am, I didn't go up in the church,
[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_01]: but I hear messages.
[00:13:49] [SPEAKER_01]: And a long time ago,
[00:13:51] [SPEAKER_01]: God told me he was gonna put me in this space
[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_01]: as an nutritionist.
[00:13:55] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, why?
[00:13:56] [SPEAKER_01]: He's like, what?
[00:13:57] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't get this cause this isn't like,
[00:13:59] [SPEAKER_01]: I told you this wasn't my career choice.
[00:14:01] [SPEAKER_01]: And God said, I put you here
[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_01]: because this is where I want you to best be served.
[00:14:05] [SPEAKER_01]: This is how I want you to show up.
[00:14:08] [SPEAKER_01]: And so I was obedient.
[00:14:09] [SPEAKER_01]: And so when I get on these calls,
[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I just ask to be useful.
[00:14:14] [SPEAKER_01]: And sometimes stuff comes out of my mouth.
[00:14:17] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's like,
[00:14:18] [SPEAKER_01]: it just comes out.
[00:14:19] [SPEAKER_01]: So when you said you didn't,
[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_01]: you not hurt that,
[00:14:22] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I said it and it's true.
[00:14:24] [SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think I've ever said it.
[00:14:27] Which is-
[00:14:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Because in 16 years,
[00:14:31] [SPEAKER_01]: like have I said that?
[00:14:33] [SPEAKER_01]: But it does matter.
[00:14:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Think about it though.
[00:14:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's say, okay.
[00:14:38] [SPEAKER_01]: So we have some cheesecake,
[00:14:40] [SPEAKER_01]: we got some French fries,
[00:14:41] [SPEAKER_01]: we have some chicken.
[00:14:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's just say what we have.
[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_01]: And we have a big salad.
[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_01]: If you had your big salad first,
[00:14:51] [SPEAKER_01]: and you drank some water,
[00:14:53] [SPEAKER_01]: then you had your chicken.
[00:14:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Now you have left your French fries
[00:14:58] [SPEAKER_01]: and your cheesecake.
[00:14:59] [SPEAKER_01]: I promise you will not eat as much.
[00:15:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[00:15:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Now if you do,
[00:15:06] [SPEAKER_01]: you will be full and your stomach's gonna hurt.
[00:15:09] [SPEAKER_01]: And it'll say to yourself,
[00:15:11] [SPEAKER_01]: okay, I'ma just not eat as much.
[00:15:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I'ma eat that.
[00:15:14] [SPEAKER_01]: But I just don't want to eat as much.
[00:15:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[00:15:17] [SPEAKER_01]: And so then your body starts to do two things.
[00:15:20] [SPEAKER_01]: It starts to be trained
[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_01]: and then it starts to crave the nutrients.
[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like we have to train our bodies.
[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_01]: We have to tell it what to do.
[00:15:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise it's gonna tell us what to do.
[00:15:32] [SPEAKER_01]: So you have to be the trainer of your body and your mind,
[00:15:37] [SPEAKER_01]: because people are trying to train your body and your mind.
[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_01]: They are.
[00:15:42] [SPEAKER_01]: The money is made by us eating what is available to us.
[00:15:47] [SPEAKER_01]: And then because we eat certain things
[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_01]: and we do certain things,
[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_01]: then we become forever customers
[00:15:53] [SPEAKER_01]: of the pharmaceutical industry.
[00:15:55] [SPEAKER_01]: And they make all the money.
[00:15:58] [SPEAKER_01]: If you notice in these days,
[00:16:00] [SPEAKER_01]: all the commercials are, most of them, like all,
[00:16:04] [SPEAKER_01]: but a lot of the commercials
[00:16:05] [SPEAKER_01]: are from pharmaceutical companies.
[00:16:06] [SPEAKER_01]: And that's not the case.
[00:16:08] [SPEAKER_01]: So they're the ones that are running the messaging
[00:16:14] [SPEAKER_01]: and the TV and the producer of content,
[00:16:19] [SPEAKER_01]: they want their advertising dollars
[00:16:21] [SPEAKER_01]: and the pharmaceutical companies want our eyes and ears.
[00:16:26] [SPEAKER_01]: And so you'll see if you look on TV,
[00:16:28] [SPEAKER_01]: you might see a juicy hamburger or whatever,
[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_01]: and some whatever food.
[00:16:33] [SPEAKER_01]: And then you might see some medications come after that
[00:16:36] [SPEAKER_01]: and then some heartburn stuff come after that
[00:16:39] [SPEAKER_01]: and all these medications, right?
[00:16:41] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's like, oh, okay, just eat whatever this is
[00:16:44] [SPEAKER_01]: and take this medication, ask your doctor if it's for you,
[00:16:47] [SPEAKER_01]: nevermind the side effects.
[00:16:48] [SPEAKER_01]: And we just go where we go.
[00:16:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[00:16:51] [SPEAKER_01]: So now we are making the rich richer.
[00:16:55] [SPEAKER_01]: We are making the food companies rich.
[00:16:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_01]: We're continuing to make
[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_01]: the pharmaceutical companies rich,
[00:17:02] [SPEAKER_01]: the healthcare system rich and nobody,
[00:17:05] [SPEAKER_01]: not nobody but generally for us to be healthy
[00:17:08] [SPEAKER_01]: serves who?
[00:17:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Nobody but you.
[00:17:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, nobody but you.
[00:17:15] [SPEAKER_01]: So that'd be the truth, right?
[00:17:18] [SPEAKER_01]: So that's the reality.
[00:17:20] [SPEAKER_01]: So again, what is a solution?
[00:17:22] [SPEAKER_01]: There are many.
[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_01]: One of them is to eat the food in a certain order.
[00:17:29] [SPEAKER_00]: So the thing telling me is I can have-
[00:17:33] [SPEAKER_00]: No, that's not what she's saying.
[00:17:36] [SPEAKER_00]: We can pop open the salad kit, right?
[00:17:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Eat my salad, eat all that.
[00:17:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Eat all that.
[00:17:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Then, no, my chicken and I'm good to go, right?
[00:17:48] [SPEAKER_02]: So-
[00:17:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Go ahead.
[00:17:50] [SPEAKER_02]: One of, now under normal circumstances,
[00:17:55] [SPEAKER_02]: I would co-sign that and tell him we have a plan.
[00:17:58] [SPEAKER_02]: However, we come from the generation of clean your plate.
[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_02]: That's something he still struggles with.
[00:18:06] [SPEAKER_02]: No, we do, yeah.
[00:18:07] [SPEAKER_02]: If you eat your big salad,
[00:18:09] [SPEAKER_02]: but you've put two pieces of chicken on your plate,
[00:18:12] [SPEAKER_02]: you know if you see them-
[00:18:14] [SPEAKER_02]: You gotta eat, yeah.
[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_02]: It's hard for you.
[00:18:16] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm getting better with that.
[00:18:17] [SPEAKER_02]: You are.
[00:18:18] [SPEAKER_02]: It's a work in progress,
[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_02]: but we came from the clean plate era.
[00:18:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I am convinced that that is why I see
[00:18:29] [SPEAKER_00]: more unhealthier looking,
[00:18:31] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not gonna say name,
[00:18:34] [SPEAKER_00]: but unhealthier looking people in public today
[00:18:37] [SPEAKER_00]: seeing where we're kids.
[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Clean your plate.
[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's clean your plate.
[00:18:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Clean your plate or you ain't gonna get up off
[00:18:44] [SPEAKER_01]: that table until you eat all that.
[00:18:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Right, right.
[00:18:47] [SPEAKER_00]: It really is.
[00:18:48] [SPEAKER_01]: It's messaging, it's tradition, and think about it.
[00:18:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Food is, we've built a whole world around it,
[00:18:58] [SPEAKER_01]: celebrations around it.
[00:18:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Every time you have a party or somebody's married,
[00:19:03] [SPEAKER_01]: think about this.
[00:19:04] [SPEAKER_01]: When people pass away,
[00:19:07] [SPEAKER_01]: then the food,
[00:19:08] [SPEAKER_01]: a lot of times if they pass away
[00:19:10] [SPEAKER_01]: from some health condition,
[00:19:11] [SPEAKER_01]: the food that you're eating at the repast
[00:19:12] [SPEAKER_01]: is a very losing.
[00:19:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Right, right.
[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_00]: And people be mad if they see no repast.
[00:19:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, or if you got to, yeah.
[00:19:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, yes.
[00:19:22] [SPEAKER_01]: I used to do classes where we would cook healthy food
[00:19:28] [SPEAKER_01]: and it tastes so good and people would eat it all up
[00:19:32] [SPEAKER_01]: and then would say,
[00:19:34] [SPEAKER_01]: if I could cook like this, I would eat like this.
[00:19:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Or if I could eat like this, I would be healthy.
[00:19:39] [SPEAKER_01]: And some of it's just an awareness
[00:19:41] [SPEAKER_01]: of what you can cook so it tastes good.
[00:19:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause healthy food does not have to be terrible.
[00:19:51] [SPEAKER_01]: It's always a place,
[00:19:52] [SPEAKER_01]: like I'm told I'm never gonna tell people,
[00:19:54] [SPEAKER_01]: don't eat what you like.
[00:19:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause who wants to live this whole life
[00:19:59] [SPEAKER_01]: not having things that,
[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_01]: food is a pleasure source.
[00:20:03] [SPEAKER_01]: But it's learning how to manage it logistically.
[00:20:09] [SPEAKER_01]: So there's the logistics of it,
[00:20:11] [SPEAKER_01]: like the physical management of it
[00:20:12] [SPEAKER_01]: but then it's also the mental management of it.
[00:20:15] [SPEAKER_01]: And the mental management of it is harder
[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_01]: than the physical management of it
[00:20:22] [SPEAKER_01]: because we're in a world that doesn't support us that way.
[00:20:27] [SPEAKER_01]: So I wanna talk solutions really about
[00:20:29] [SPEAKER_01]: just a couple of things,
[00:20:31] [SPEAKER_01]: but within your home, your home
[00:20:34] [SPEAKER_01]: and then those that are listening,
[00:20:35] [SPEAKER_01]: making those small shifts as a team.
[00:20:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause it's whoever you're hanging around,
[00:20:42] [SPEAKER_01]: the five people that's who you're going to eat like,
[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_01]: be like all of those things.
[00:20:49] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you are able to within your tribe say,
[00:20:54] [SPEAKER_01]: okay, tribe, this is how we're gonna approach this.
[00:20:59] [SPEAKER_01]: And there's so many different strategies
[00:21:01] [SPEAKER_01]: but the thing that is what makes the most sense
[00:21:05] [SPEAKER_01]: and I always ask like, what are you willing to do?
[00:21:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Because when I was a novice nutritionist,
[00:21:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I was probably giving people guidance
[00:21:18] [SPEAKER_01]: but not really asking them what they're willing to do.
[00:21:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I was like, this is what you should do.
[00:21:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Nobody what you should do.
[00:21:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause what you should do
[00:21:28] [SPEAKER_01]: hasn't do what you're gonna do.
[00:21:30] [SPEAKER_01]: So I always wanna know like,
[00:21:31] [SPEAKER_01]: what are you willing to do?
[00:21:33] [SPEAKER_01]: And then we can go with that.
[00:21:34] [SPEAKER_01]: And some people are like, okay, baby steps.
[00:21:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I can do a big salad before I eat.
[00:21:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, cool, let's do that.
[00:21:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Right, let's start with what you can do
[00:21:45] [SPEAKER_01]: or what you are willing to do
[00:21:47] [SPEAKER_01]: and what you're willing to be consistent with
[00:21:51] [SPEAKER_01]: and then move forward.
[00:21:53] [SPEAKER_01]: There's so many strategies.
[00:21:56] [SPEAKER_01]: I had clients where I would ask them
[00:21:59] [SPEAKER_01]: cause like some people would love desserts
[00:22:01] [SPEAKER_01]: or some people love chips and salsa like me.
[00:22:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I'd rather have chips and salsa or guacamole than cake.
[00:22:08] [SPEAKER_01]: But some people they need cake.
[00:22:09] [SPEAKER_01]: And I said, okay, so let's plan this dessert day.
[00:22:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And so I had some clients that said,
[00:22:14] [SPEAKER_01]: you know what, I'm gonna have a dessert once a month.
[00:22:17] [SPEAKER_01]: And then I had some that say,
[00:22:18] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna have it once a week
[00:22:19] [SPEAKER_01]: cause they used to have it five days a week.
[00:22:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Right, right.
[00:22:23] [SPEAKER_01]: So now they're like,
[00:22:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna have it once a week, cool.
[00:22:28] [SPEAKER_01]: And when they have it once a week,
[00:22:30] [SPEAKER_01]: no guilt, no shame, go all in,
[00:22:32] [SPEAKER_01]: lick your fork, have a good time.
[00:22:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Right, you're doing it less than you were.
[00:22:37] [SPEAKER_01]: But then maybe you still have a sweet tooth
[00:22:39] [SPEAKER_01]: the other five days of the week.
[00:22:41] [SPEAKER_01]: So let's strategize what you can do
[00:22:45] [SPEAKER_01]: to manage that sweet tooth.
[00:22:47] [SPEAKER_01]: There's tricks and hacks to do that.
[00:22:50] [SPEAKER_01]: And then enjoy your dessert.
[00:22:52] [SPEAKER_01]: So we made a commitment to say,
[00:22:56] [SPEAKER_01]: okay, I'm gonna have my dessert
[00:22:57] [SPEAKER_01]: and have my cheesecake once a week.
[00:22:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Those other days, I'm going to do some work arounds
[00:23:03] [SPEAKER_01]: to manage my sweet tooth.
[00:23:06] [SPEAKER_01]: And that's our approach.
[00:23:07] [SPEAKER_01]: And then my other approach is
[00:23:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna have my vegetables with every meal
[00:23:11] [SPEAKER_01]: or more meals than I had.
[00:23:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Like whatever is more than what you're doing before.
[00:23:16] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like when people start to try to do too much
[00:23:19] [SPEAKER_01]: than you're doing.
[00:23:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause it's like with exercise, I learned this.
[00:23:23] [SPEAKER_01]: I used to say, okay, I'm gonna work out
[00:23:26] [SPEAKER_01]: five days a week.
[00:23:27] [SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm not.
[00:23:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause I ain't never even worked out three days.
[00:23:30] [SPEAKER_01]: So how am I gonna get to five?
[00:23:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's start with one day a week.
[00:23:35] [SPEAKER_01]: How about that?
[00:23:36] [SPEAKER_01]: And then master one day, right?
[00:23:39] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like trying to do too much.
[00:23:41] [SPEAKER_01]: And then some people have the personality
[00:23:44] [SPEAKER_01]: where they're all or nothing.
[00:23:45] [SPEAKER_01]: And that's a personality.
[00:23:46] [SPEAKER_01]: We have different personalities of what we can do
[00:23:48] [SPEAKER_01]: but generally trying to do too much.
[00:23:51] [SPEAKER_01]: And then people just get discouraged.
[00:23:53] [SPEAKER_01]: They're like, I'm just not gonna do it.
[00:23:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Which is like, pick one thing, do it.
[00:23:57] [SPEAKER_01]: And just do it well, even if it's water.
[00:24:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, okay, we gonna drink water at dinner
[00:24:04] [SPEAKER_01]: instead of the sweet tea this month.
[00:24:08] [SPEAKER_01]: That's all we're gonna do.
[00:24:08] [SPEAKER_01]: This month, we ain't gonna talk about next month.
[00:24:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Next month we'll go back to our sweet tea.
[00:24:12] [SPEAKER_01]: We want to, we're just gonna drink water this month.
[00:24:15] [SPEAKER_01]: That's what we're gonna do and then do it.
[00:24:17] [SPEAKER_01]: And then say, okay, evaluate.
[00:24:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I always like to say, do something, evaluate it.
[00:24:23] [SPEAKER_01]: See if you liked it enough to keep going
[00:24:25] [SPEAKER_01]: and then add on something else.
[00:24:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I love evaluation.
[00:24:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Do it for a good time and then see how you feel.
[00:24:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Right, right.
[00:24:33] [SPEAKER_01]: And then move on from it
[00:24:35] [SPEAKER_01]: or then move on to something else.
[00:24:37] [SPEAKER_01]: And I know that works
[00:24:38] [SPEAKER_01]: because I'm gonna tell you,
[00:24:40] [SPEAKER_01]: if you go a month with not having,
[00:24:42] [SPEAKER_01]: say this, not having sweet tea for dinner,
[00:24:45] [SPEAKER_01]: you're gonna notice a change.
[00:24:47] [SPEAKER_01]: And then when you go back to your sweet tea,
[00:24:48] [SPEAKER_01]: you gonna notice a change.
[00:24:49] [SPEAKER_01]: I always just tell people,
[00:24:50] [SPEAKER_01]: do something for a little bit
[00:24:51] [SPEAKER_01]: and then go back to what you were doing.
[00:24:53] [SPEAKER_01]: How about that?
[00:24:55] [SPEAKER_02]: You're right.
[00:24:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
[00:24:58] [SPEAKER_02]: You're stepping on my toes again.
[00:25:01] [SPEAKER_02]: Because I am the, I want change.
[00:25:05] [SPEAKER_02]: I want it to happen.
[00:25:05] [SPEAKER_02]: I want it to happen right now.
[00:25:08] [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm gonna work out five times a week
[00:25:11] [SPEAKER_02]: and I'll start and next week happens.
[00:25:16] [SPEAKER_02]: And then once I miss a day,
[00:25:18] [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like, well, I've missed this day.
[00:25:22] [SPEAKER_02]: So that's gone.
[00:25:25] [SPEAKER_02]: So that, you know,
[00:25:27] [SPEAKER_02]: but I do one thing I don't do.
[00:25:30] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't do well with the evaluating.
[00:25:34] [SPEAKER_02]: I stop.
[00:25:37] [SPEAKER_02]: I drink water now more than I ever have in my life.
[00:25:40] [SPEAKER_02]: That's all I do with the exception of
[00:25:43] [SPEAKER_02]: I have a macho habit
[00:25:46] [SPEAKER_02]: and I've cut down on that
[00:25:50] [SPEAKER_02]: two days a week instead of five.
[00:25:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Every now and then I might have a soda
[00:25:56] [SPEAKER_02]: or a tea or something like that,
[00:25:58] [SPEAKER_02]: but I don't do the evaluating.
[00:26:02] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think about how it's changed.
[00:26:04] [SPEAKER_02]: And I know it has.
[00:26:05] [SPEAKER_02]: I know that it's helped with my skin
[00:26:08] [SPEAKER_02]: and that's a big thing for me
[00:26:11] [SPEAKER_02]: because somehow I don't find it fair
[00:26:13] [SPEAKER_02]: that at 49 I'm fighting acne
[00:26:17] [SPEAKER_02]: in facial hair and wrinkles.
[00:26:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Like, pixel.
[00:26:22] [SPEAKER_01]: That's a whole other conversation.
[00:26:25] [SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, it's like we could talk endlessly.
[00:26:28] [SPEAKER_01]: I will say this too.
[00:26:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I do a program with that's just 10 days
[00:26:32] [SPEAKER_01]: and it's like that's it is like 10 days.
[00:26:34] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm instructing people on eating clean
[00:26:37] [SPEAKER_01]: and just flooding their body with produce
[00:26:41] [SPEAKER_01]: and doing a certain protocol for 10 days.
[00:26:43] [SPEAKER_01]: And then after the 10 days, I stop doing it.
[00:26:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, stop it all.
[00:26:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Go back to everything you were doing.
[00:26:50] [SPEAKER_01]: And I evaluate with them.
[00:26:52] [SPEAKER_01]: So ask them, how do you feel?
[00:26:53] [SPEAKER_01]: What do you notice?
[00:26:54] [SPEAKER_01]: And then I say, you are free.
[00:26:56] [SPEAKER_01]: You are free, free, free.
[00:26:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Like go be free, do whatever you wanna do.
[00:26:59] [SPEAKER_01]: And most people like, no, I don't want to.
[00:27:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Or I do want to eat.
[00:27:05] [SPEAKER_01]: For example, when I do the 10 days
[00:27:07] [SPEAKER_01]: we're not having dairy
[00:27:09] [SPEAKER_01]: and people's like, I miss my cheese.
[00:27:11] [SPEAKER_01]: It puts your cheese back on.
[00:27:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And then they do.
[00:27:14] [SPEAKER_01]: And sometimes they put their cheese back
[00:27:17] [SPEAKER_01]: and now their stomach is gurgling.
[00:27:21] [SPEAKER_01]: But what happens when you do it every month, 10 days
[00:27:24] [SPEAKER_01]: every month, 10 days.
[00:27:26] [SPEAKER_01]: And what happens over time
[00:27:29] [SPEAKER_01]: to start little by little, I mean, this is over time.
[00:27:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes it takes people years, years.
[00:27:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I've had people just shift their life little by little
[00:27:38] [SPEAKER_01]: just by 10 days a month.
[00:27:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause what it feels like is not restrictive.
[00:27:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Meaning like you got 20 other days of the month
[00:27:47] [SPEAKER_01]: whatever you wanna do.
[00:27:49] [SPEAKER_01]: But those 10 days, it just, you like notice how you felt.
[00:27:54] [SPEAKER_01]: And then you go, and then you self-evaluate
[00:27:59] [SPEAKER_01]: and you play with it.
[00:28:00] [SPEAKER_01]: It's a, there's no get there.
[00:28:02] [SPEAKER_01]: There's never a mastery of this ever.
[00:28:06] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like riding a mechanical bull all the time.
[00:28:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Like you were trying to stay on the healthy track
[00:28:12] [SPEAKER_01]: and then you fall off.
[00:28:14] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like how it goes.
[00:28:17] [SPEAKER_01]: There's never gonna be a get there
[00:28:20] [SPEAKER_01]: because situations change, the environment changes.
[00:28:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Our bodies are changing, especially if you're a woman.
[00:28:26] [SPEAKER_01]: My specialty are women in midlife.
[00:28:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Like that's who I work with cause that is me.
[00:28:31] [SPEAKER_01]: But it's like there are certain nutrients
[00:28:35] [SPEAKER_01]: that our bodies need because we're at this certain age
[00:28:38] [SPEAKER_01]: that when we were younger, it didn't matter as much.
[00:28:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Let me, I wanna share, cause I know our time.
[00:28:45] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't want it to run out before I share
[00:28:47] [SPEAKER_01]: the biggest mistakes, biggest nutrition mistakes
[00:28:49] [SPEAKER_01]: that people make.
[00:28:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause I think it is important.
[00:28:52] [SPEAKER_01]: And I touched on some of them, but I wanna wrap them
[00:28:55] [SPEAKER_01]: or I wanna say them succinctly so people can hear that.
[00:29:00] [SPEAKER_01]: So one of them is misunderstanding carbohydrates.
[00:29:04] [SPEAKER_01]: And so carbohydrates are our main energy source.
[00:29:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna say that.
[00:29:09] [SPEAKER_01]: So carbohydrates would be, it could be pasta, it's bread,
[00:29:13] [SPEAKER_01]: it's oatmeal, it's a piece of pie, it's cookies.
[00:29:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Like it's a whole lot of mixtures
[00:29:21] [SPEAKER_01]: of we'll say the good and the bad.
[00:29:23] [SPEAKER_01]: But mostly it's carbohydrates that we like the most.
[00:29:26] [SPEAKER_01]: So my thing is chips or french fries.
[00:29:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Love that stuff.
[00:29:31] [SPEAKER_01]: So with carbohydrates, when we eat more
[00:29:35] [SPEAKER_01]: than our body can process.
[00:29:37] [SPEAKER_01]: So there's a threshold that everybody has
[00:29:40] [SPEAKER_01]: where your body's like, okay, you had enough.
[00:29:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Everything else you put into your mouth
[00:29:44] [SPEAKER_01]: is gonna turn into sugar and store as fat.
[00:29:47] [SPEAKER_01]: So now the more muscle mass you have,
[00:29:50] [SPEAKER_01]: the more exercise you have, the younger you are,
[00:29:54] [SPEAKER_01]: the better your body deals with carbohydrates.
[00:29:56] [SPEAKER_01]: So as men we get, y'all get older
[00:29:58] [SPEAKER_01]: and y'all get that belly.
[00:30:00] [SPEAKER_01]: And you were younger, you didn't have that belly
[00:30:01] [SPEAKER_01]: because your body was able to process
[00:30:04] [SPEAKER_01]: the carbohydrates more efficiently, right?
[00:30:08] [SPEAKER_01]: So with carbohydrates, that's one thing
[00:30:10] [SPEAKER_01]: that people misunderstand is what they actually do
[00:30:13] [SPEAKER_01]: and what happens in the body if you get too much.
[00:30:15] [SPEAKER_01]: So we are chubby as a people,
[00:30:19] [SPEAKER_01]: not because we are eating too much fat per se.
[00:30:22] [SPEAKER_01]: That might clog our arteries, fat,
[00:30:24] [SPEAKER_01]: but it's the carbohydrates that are making us fat.
[00:30:27] [SPEAKER_01]: So what do you do about that then?
[00:30:29] [SPEAKER_01]: The other part is the protein.
[00:30:31] [SPEAKER_01]: So protein, chicken fish, turkey, tofu, eggs,
[00:30:35] [SPEAKER_01]: cottage cheese, buffalo, there's the protein, soybeans.
[00:30:41] [SPEAKER_01]: So with protein, protein is the buffer for carbohydrates.
[00:30:46] [SPEAKER_01]: And this is the hardest thing for people to get
[00:30:49] [SPEAKER_01]: for a lot of times is having a protein
[00:30:53] [SPEAKER_01]: with your carbohydrate all the time.
[00:30:56] [SPEAKER_01]: So I promise you if I eat some banana pudding,
[00:30:58] [SPEAKER_01]: I promise you I would have proceeded it with a protein.
[00:31:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I just will do that because it's gonna slow it down.
[00:31:05] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not gonna raise my blood sugar
[00:31:07] [SPEAKER_01]: and it'll help it behave better in my body.
[00:31:11] [SPEAKER_01]: So I still ate the banana pudding, yes I did.
[00:31:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I licked the spoon out at the time
[00:31:15] [SPEAKER_01]: but I had no desire to doing that.
[00:31:19] [SPEAKER_01]: And then people would say,
[00:31:20] [SPEAKER_01]: so you just had a chicken breast before you had it?
[00:31:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Now if you're having it with your meal,
[00:31:23] [SPEAKER_01]: then yeah, you had your protein
[00:31:25] [SPEAKER_01]: and then you had your dessert, but yes.
[00:31:27] [SPEAKER_01]: But what we do is we might just be like,
[00:31:30] [SPEAKER_01]: let me go get a donut and just eat it.
[00:31:33] [SPEAKER_01]: You just, carbohydrates really nearly going
[00:31:35] [SPEAKER_01]: through your body without buffer.
[00:31:37] [SPEAKER_01]: So there's nothing to stop it
[00:31:39] [SPEAKER_01]: from moving really quickly through your body
[00:31:40] [SPEAKER_01]: and through your blood sugar.
[00:31:43] [SPEAKER_01]: It's just out there in your body universe.
[00:31:47] [SPEAKER_01]: And so maybe you had a donut,
[00:31:49] [SPEAKER_01]: maybe earlier that day you had some oatmeal,
[00:31:50] [SPEAKER_01]: maybe you had a sandwich, you had an apple,
[00:31:53] [SPEAKER_01]: all of that is building up, building up, building up.
[00:31:56] [SPEAKER_01]: But when you get that protein it's a buffer.
[00:31:58] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's like they work together.
[00:32:00] [SPEAKER_01]: So people oftentimes don't understand the importance
[00:32:02] [SPEAKER_01]: of having those with each other
[00:32:05] [SPEAKER_01]: so they can support each other.
[00:32:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Just that alone will balance the blood sugar better.
[00:32:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Just by having them together.
[00:32:12] [SPEAKER_00]: So you're saying the carb and the protein together?
[00:32:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, protein first then the carb.
[00:32:19] [SPEAKER_00]: So then carb, okay, wow.
[00:32:22] [SPEAKER_01]: And that will, they will work together as friends
[00:32:25] [SPEAKER_01]: and they will help each other out.
[00:32:30] [SPEAKER_01]: The other thing that people don't understand,
[00:32:34] [SPEAKER_01]: they don't think about when it comes to food is like,
[00:32:37] [SPEAKER_01]: what truly is your relationship with food?
[00:32:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Are you addicted?
[00:32:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause there's an addiction, right?
[00:32:43] [SPEAKER_01]: There's an addiction.
[00:32:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Are you an emotional eater?
[00:32:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Like you sad, you gotta eat, you stress,
[00:32:51] [SPEAKER_01]: you happy, you gotta eat.
[00:32:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Like are you eating?
[00:32:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Are you bored?
[00:32:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I gotta eat.
[00:32:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Like what is your relationship with it?
[00:32:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause that matters about how the solution
[00:33:02] [SPEAKER_01]: should come for you.
[00:33:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause a lot of times I think for me,
[00:33:06] [SPEAKER_01]: well as a nutritionist,
[00:33:08] [SPEAKER_01]: people come to me with a problem
[00:33:10] [SPEAKER_01]: and they think it's a nutrition problem
[00:33:12] [SPEAKER_01]: and maybe that's part of the problem
[00:33:13] [SPEAKER_01]: but that ain't the main problem.
[00:33:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Like you're not losing weight
[00:33:19] [SPEAKER_01]: because you don't understand some things.
[00:33:22] [SPEAKER_01]: It's cause you have like an addiction to food
[00:33:24] [SPEAKER_01]: and that I'm not an addiction specialist, right?
[00:33:28] [SPEAKER_01]: So that you may need some therapy for,
[00:33:33] [SPEAKER_01]: like getting to the root of that ain't what I do.
[00:33:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think a lot of people,
[00:33:36] [SPEAKER_01]: they go to a nutritionist,
[00:33:38] [SPEAKER_01]: like spending good old money,
[00:33:40] [SPEAKER_01]: but they need another,
[00:33:43] [SPEAKER_01]: like a nutritionist alongside of a psychotherapist.
[00:33:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Right. Right.
[00:33:47] [SPEAKER_01]: So how many times when I was,
[00:33:50] [SPEAKER_01]: like I said earlier on in my career,
[00:33:52] [SPEAKER_01]: they would just shell out money
[00:33:54] [SPEAKER_01]: and then they had an addiction to food.
[00:33:56] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't fix that no matter if I tell you
[00:33:58] [SPEAKER_01]: how to fix your carbohydrates and your protein.
[00:34:02] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not that.
[00:34:03] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's like, what is your relationship with food?
[00:34:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about that.
[00:34:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Like where's your mind about it?
[00:34:08] [SPEAKER_01]: And then people get sad if you try to,
[00:34:11] [SPEAKER_01]: you know, remove something that's comfort.
[00:34:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[00:34:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's like my mom from her childhood.
[00:34:18] [SPEAKER_01]: She loved to sit in front of the heater
[00:34:20] [SPEAKER_01]: with some ice cream and play with her hair.
[00:34:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Like that just was her thing.
[00:34:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Like don't ask her not to do that.
[00:34:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Like to this very day,
[00:34:28] [SPEAKER_01]: every day at two o'clock,
[00:34:30] [SPEAKER_01]: my mom is 70 years old.
[00:34:32] [SPEAKER_01]: She doesn't do the ice cream.
[00:34:33] [SPEAKER_01]: We've shifted what she does,
[00:34:35] [SPEAKER_01]: but it's still, it's this vanilla protein shake,
[00:34:38] [SPEAKER_01]: but she still does it every time.
[00:34:41] [SPEAKER_01]: And it gives her that comfort.
[00:34:43] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's like digging into like,
[00:34:46] [SPEAKER_01]: what is your true relationship?
[00:34:48] [SPEAKER_01]: So let me back up.
[00:34:48] [SPEAKER_01]: So biggest mistake people not understand,
[00:34:50] [SPEAKER_01]: and they're not in order.
[00:34:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Misunderstanding carbohydrates,
[00:34:53] [SPEAKER_01]: misunderstanding protein,
[00:34:54] [SPEAKER_01]: misunderstanding your relationship with food.
[00:34:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Like what is your situation with it?
[00:35:01] [SPEAKER_01]: And then I'm gonna say this
[00:35:04] [SPEAKER_01]: cause vitamin D is like,
[00:35:08] [SPEAKER_01]: it's like one of the things that I'm just a advocate for
[00:35:12] [SPEAKER_01]: is so many people are low in vitamin D
[00:35:14] [SPEAKER_01]: and low vitamin D is an easy deficiency to have.
[00:35:18] [SPEAKER_01]: And also it's easy one not to have.
[00:35:21] [SPEAKER_01]: And our cells need vitamin D
[00:35:23] [SPEAKER_01]: so desperately in order to function.
[00:35:26] [SPEAKER_01]: And I just find that a lot of people,
[00:35:28] [SPEAKER_01]: cause we work inside all the time,
[00:35:30] [SPEAKER_01]: we're not getting sun.
[00:35:31] [SPEAKER_01]: At a nutrition mistake is not taking vitamin D
[00:35:36] [SPEAKER_01]: adequately and not even knowing
[00:35:38] [SPEAKER_01]: what your vitamin D levels are in the first place
[00:35:41] [SPEAKER_01]: is a no-no.
[00:35:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Because people get misdiagnosed for all kinds of things
[00:35:48] [SPEAKER_01]: when it was a vitamin D deficiency.
[00:35:52] [SPEAKER_01]: So that's what I'm gonna say about that.
[00:35:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I tell you it's a never ending conversation
[00:35:57] [SPEAKER_01]: and there's so many things to talk about.
[00:36:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I wrote some notes, I'm looking at that.
[00:36:06] [SPEAKER_01]: So I just wanna make sure that I didn't
[00:36:10] [SPEAKER_01]: leave anything.
[00:36:11] [SPEAKER_01]: And sometimes it's a lack of knowledge for some, right?
[00:36:14] [SPEAKER_01]: And then it's, okay, I know people know what to do
[00:36:18] [SPEAKER_01]: and fail to do what they know.
[00:36:20] [SPEAKER_01]: My biggest thing I could say is truly,
[00:36:22] [SPEAKER_01]: truly take baby steps
[00:36:24] [SPEAKER_01]: and do something you know you can do.
[00:36:27] [SPEAKER_01]: And do it at a rate that you can give yourself
[00:36:31] [SPEAKER_01]: a pat on the back and you like, you know what?
[00:36:34] [SPEAKER_01]: I did drink one cup of water today.
[00:36:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I did, I used to not, but I did today.
[00:36:40] [SPEAKER_01]: I drank one cup like that, I did that.
[00:36:42] [SPEAKER_01]: And you're like, okay, and tomorrow I'm gonna have one,
[00:36:45] [SPEAKER_01]: not two, just one.
[00:36:47] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna master that, I'm gonna,
[00:36:50] [SPEAKER_01]: cause it's like setting a goal
[00:36:51] [SPEAKER_01]: that you know you can do.
[00:36:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[00:36:54] [SPEAKER_01]: You can do that goal, yeah.
[00:36:56] [SPEAKER_00]: That's fantastic.
[00:36:58] [SPEAKER_00]: I wanted to double back on the vitamin D.
[00:37:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:37:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I did some research, I don't know, a few months ago
[00:37:06] [SPEAKER_00]: and I remember listening to a radio show
[00:37:10] [SPEAKER_00]: and they had a professional on there
[00:37:12] [SPEAKER_00]: and he recommended 6,000 international units a day.
[00:37:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, well, I need that, you know?
[00:37:19] [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm gonna try that.
[00:37:20] [SPEAKER_00]: So I wanna get the Walmart vitamins or something like that.
[00:37:25] [SPEAKER_00]: So I've been doing it, not on a daily basis,
[00:37:29] [SPEAKER_00]: but you know, more consistently than not.
[00:37:33] [SPEAKER_00]: And I have noticed a difference.
[00:37:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Now what is that vitamin D daily supply doing for us?
[00:37:41] [SPEAKER_01]: So let me tell you what happens when you don't have it.
[00:37:44] [SPEAKER_01]: How about that?
[00:37:45] [SPEAKER_01]: When you don't have vitamin D, it affects your mood.
[00:37:49] [SPEAKER_01]: It affects your energy level.
[00:37:50] [SPEAKER_01]: It affects your immune system.
[00:37:51] [SPEAKER_01]: It affects your blood sugar.
[00:37:53] [SPEAKER_01]: It affects your gut health.
[00:37:55] [SPEAKER_01]: It affects, I said hair, does that say hair?
[00:37:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Like it touches so many parts of our bodies.
[00:38:01] [SPEAKER_01]: And if you have melanated skin,
[00:38:04] [SPEAKER_01]: your absorption is more challenged
[00:38:06] [SPEAKER_01]: because vitamin D comes from the sun.
[00:38:08] [SPEAKER_01]: It hits your skin, your skin produces it
[00:38:10] [SPEAKER_01]: and there you go.
[00:38:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, for darker skin, it doesn't do it as efficiently
[00:38:14] [SPEAKER_01]: and if the older you get,
[00:38:16] [SPEAKER_01]: we become less efficient in doing that.
[00:38:21] [SPEAKER_01]: So then on the flip side,
[00:38:22] [SPEAKER_01]: when you do have your vitamin D,
[00:38:24] [SPEAKER_01]: now your cells are able to thrive better.
[00:38:29] [SPEAKER_01]: So your cells need certain nutrients
[00:38:32] [SPEAKER_01]: in order to fight off illness, fight off disease.
[00:38:35] [SPEAKER_01]: So like we know that during the pandemic,
[00:38:39] [SPEAKER_01]: those who had lower vitamin D levels
[00:38:41] [SPEAKER_01]: have struggled with COVID the most
[00:38:44] [SPEAKER_01]: and that happened to be black folks unfortunately.
[00:38:49] [SPEAKER_01]: So that is the reality of vitamin D.
[00:38:54] [SPEAKER_01]: The how much you should take.
[00:38:57] [SPEAKER_01]: So there, so 5,000 I use or in your case 6,000 I use
[00:39:03] [SPEAKER_01]: is okay.
[00:39:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I always want people to know
[00:39:07] [SPEAKER_01]: whether levels start with to begin with.
[00:39:11] [SPEAKER_01]: So then you know what you are doing
[00:39:14] [SPEAKER_01]: because when it comes to supplements
[00:39:16] [SPEAKER_01]: and that's part of like, I really get into that
[00:39:19] [SPEAKER_01]: because my company Necessary Nutrition,
[00:39:20] [SPEAKER_01]: we are vitamin, we produce,
[00:39:24] [SPEAKER_01]: we don't, I say produce,
[00:39:25] [SPEAKER_01]: we don't produce out of the sun
[00:39:26] [SPEAKER_01]: but that's one of the supplements
[00:39:28] [SPEAKER_01]: that we offer is vitamin D.
[00:39:30] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm real, real intimate with that
[00:39:32] [SPEAKER_01]: and how it's made and all the things
[00:39:34] [SPEAKER_01]: but what happens is people are taking
[00:39:38] [SPEAKER_01]: that supplement and any other supplement willy nilly.
[00:39:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Like maybe you heard something on some radio show
[00:39:43] [SPEAKER_01]: and then you started taking it
[00:39:45] [SPEAKER_01]: but you don't even know what you,
[00:39:48] [SPEAKER_01]: not you but us in general,
[00:39:51] [SPEAKER_01]: where you were to begin with.
[00:39:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Like do you need 6,000 or do you need 10,000 a day
[00:39:59] [SPEAKER_01]: or do you need 2,000 a day?
[00:40:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Like what was your levels to begin with?
[00:40:03] [SPEAKER_01]: And if you know that then that is helpful
[00:40:08] [SPEAKER_01]: but I would say this,
[00:40:09] [SPEAKER_01]: if you're taking 5,000 I use or 6,000,
[00:40:13] [SPEAKER_01]: it's, you're generally fine
[00:40:16] [SPEAKER_01]: and that's actually a good range.
[00:40:17] [SPEAKER_01]: That's what I take daily.
[00:40:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't start off that way,
[00:40:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I started off lower cause I didn't know
[00:40:24] [SPEAKER_01]: and then when I saw what my vitamin D levels were
[00:40:26] [SPEAKER_01]: then I boosted it up.
[00:40:27] [SPEAKER_01]: But I just talked to a customer yesterday
[00:40:29] [SPEAKER_01]: and her vitamin D levels were over 100
[00:40:35] [SPEAKER_01]: and that's like getting in the higher range.
[00:40:38] [SPEAKER_01]: So she doesn't need to supplement with vitamin D.
[00:40:42] [SPEAKER_01]: She just doesn't like most people do
[00:40:45] [SPEAKER_01]: but she didn't, doesn't.
[00:40:47] [SPEAKER_01]: And so just knowing that I'm like,
[00:40:49] [SPEAKER_01]: okay you don't need that regular.
[00:40:52] [SPEAKER_01]: You don't need it every day.
[00:40:54] [SPEAKER_01]: And then there's some people that are super, super low
[00:40:56] [SPEAKER_01]: and they need to do a mega dose.
[00:40:59] [SPEAKER_01]: This is all fun to me,
[00:41:00] [SPEAKER_01]: talking about this is so fun.
[00:41:03] [SPEAKER_01]: But what happened is that,
[00:41:06] [SPEAKER_01]: and then this is the last thing I'm gonna say about this
[00:41:08] [SPEAKER_01]: is that again, people take supplements
[00:41:11] [SPEAKER_01]: cause the world said you should
[00:41:13] [SPEAKER_01]: and then we go get something from the store.
[00:41:18] [SPEAKER_01]: And I say this cause again, we make them
[00:41:21] [SPEAKER_01]: like we know what it takes and all of that
[00:41:25] [SPEAKER_01]: and what's in the stores and what goes into those.
[00:41:27] [SPEAKER_01]: And you have no idea sometimes,
[00:41:30] [SPEAKER_01]: not you personally but people
[00:41:31] [SPEAKER_01]: what we're actually putting in our mouths.
[00:41:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And supplements are not regulated.
[00:41:38] [SPEAKER_01]: So anybody could put anything in a bottle
[00:41:41] [SPEAKER_01]: and put it on Amazon or put it in Walmart or what have you.
[00:41:46] [SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that's,
[00:41:47] [SPEAKER_01]: it's something people don't care.
[00:41:49] [SPEAKER_01]: I just care cause I just really pay attention to it.
[00:41:51] [SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of the vitamin D supplements are
[00:41:55] [SPEAKER_01]: the casing is pork.
[00:41:57] [SPEAKER_01]: And so I don't eat, I don't eat pork.
[00:41:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Now if people did eat pork, they don't care about that.
[00:42:01] [SPEAKER_01]: But if you do, don't eat pork
[00:42:03] [SPEAKER_01]: and you don't want a pork casing on your product,
[00:42:07] [SPEAKER_01]: you don't know that, then you take it.
[00:42:10] [SPEAKER_01]: And then there's also some coding that goes on
[00:42:14] [SPEAKER_01]: to some of the supplements
[00:42:15] [SPEAKER_01]: that actually work against our gut health.
[00:42:18] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's like you're taking something
[00:42:19] [SPEAKER_01]: but it's actually using up your digestive system
[00:42:23] [SPEAKER_01]: in the process.
[00:42:26] [SPEAKER_02]: To find your vitamin D level in any of those levels,
[00:42:30] [SPEAKER_02]: is that just with your doctor routine blood work
[00:42:34] [SPEAKER_02]: or is it something specific?
[00:42:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Those are routine blood work.
[00:42:39] [SPEAKER_01]: So the vitamin D is you just go and get that checked.
[00:42:42] [SPEAKER_01]: And when they run your panels, they ask them,
[00:42:45] [SPEAKER_01]: cause sometimes they won't do it.
[00:42:48] [SPEAKER_01]: That's a whole nother story, but you ask them,
[00:42:49] [SPEAKER_01]: just make sure you run my vitamin D.
[00:42:51] [SPEAKER_01]: And then if you are at 30,
[00:42:54] [SPEAKER_01]: they're gonna tell you that you're fine.
[00:42:56] [SPEAKER_01]: If you're below, they'll tell you you're deficient.
[00:42:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Our bodies are maximally supported
[00:43:00] [SPEAKER_01]: when our vitamin D levels between 60 and 80.
[00:43:03] [SPEAKER_01]: So maximally supported means that
[00:43:06] [SPEAKER_01]: it's giving yourselves what you need
[00:43:08] [SPEAKER_01]: and your body is just better off in a healthier state.
[00:43:12] [SPEAKER_01]: If you're at 30, that's like minimum wage.
[00:43:15] [SPEAKER_01]: You can live off of minimum wage.
[00:43:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Are you thriving?
[00:43:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe not, but you're not deficient.
[00:43:23] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you don't know those that are listening
[00:43:26] [SPEAKER_01]: what your vitamin D levels are, start there
[00:43:30] [SPEAKER_01]: and then you'll know how to proceed.
[00:43:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I know our time is getting short.
[00:43:36] [SPEAKER_01]: And so I wanna see if there's any other questions
[00:43:39] [SPEAKER_01]: and then I want to share with anybody listening
[00:43:42] [SPEAKER_01]: how they can further hang out with me
[00:43:45] [SPEAKER_01]: if they want to, or just get some additional information.
[00:43:49] [SPEAKER_00]: If you wanna do that.
[00:43:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I guess if I had a,
[00:43:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I just thought of something for the listeners
[00:43:56] [SPEAKER_00]: and for ourselves, we want to,
[00:44:00] [SPEAKER_00]: we've been listening to you.
[00:44:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, we wanna get on the plan.
[00:44:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Of course everybody says consult your doctor.
[00:44:08] [SPEAKER_00]: So what are some things other than vitamin D
[00:44:10] [SPEAKER_00]: that we should have checked just to make sure?
[00:44:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, shoot, that's a big question
[00:44:18] [SPEAKER_01]: because it's man or if you're a woman,
[00:44:21] [SPEAKER_01]: so and women are my expertise,
[00:44:22] [SPEAKER_01]: but if you go to the doctor
[00:44:25] [SPEAKER_01]: and that goes into a whole other,
[00:44:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I wish that was an easy question too
[00:44:28] [SPEAKER_01]: because depending on what insurance you have
[00:44:30] [SPEAKER_01]: is they sometimes won't even let you check stuff
[00:44:34] [SPEAKER_01]: that you really need to check.
[00:44:37] [SPEAKER_01]: And they won't check it in a way that's effective,
[00:44:39] [SPEAKER_01]: but let's just say that obviously
[00:44:42] [SPEAKER_01]: you're checking your blood pressure,
[00:44:43] [SPEAKER_01]: you're checking your cholesterol,
[00:44:45] [SPEAKER_01]: you're checking your red blood cells,
[00:44:49] [SPEAKER_01]: your white blood cells.
[00:44:49] [SPEAKER_01]: So you're getting a general physical,
[00:44:51] [SPEAKER_01]: but then it's like, okay,
[00:44:52] [SPEAKER_01]: we don't even know what these numbers mean, right?
[00:44:54] [SPEAKER_01]: But you're getting those,
[00:44:56] [SPEAKER_01]: you're looking at your vitamin and mineral content,
[00:44:58] [SPEAKER_01]: your B vitamins and all those things.
[00:45:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Those are like standard,
[00:45:03] [SPEAKER_01]: but above that I actually have a checklist.
[00:45:07] [SPEAKER_01]: I will, if you all remind me,
[00:45:10] [SPEAKER_01]: I will send you all,
[00:45:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I will send you guys the checklist.
[00:45:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how to get it to the audience,
[00:45:15] [SPEAKER_01]: but I'll send you a checklist of like a health checklist
[00:45:18] [SPEAKER_01]: of what you need to pay attention to.
[00:45:20] [SPEAKER_01]: And then I'll answer this question for women.
[00:45:23] [SPEAKER_01]: We need our hormones checked at a certain age
[00:45:27] [SPEAKER_01]: and your traditional doctor is not going to do it
[00:45:31] [SPEAKER_01]: in a way that's going to give you the information
[00:45:34] [SPEAKER_01]: that you need because it's better done through,
[00:45:38] [SPEAKER_01]: in some cases, urine and saliva.
[00:45:41] [SPEAKER_01]: And your traditional doctor,
[00:45:42] [SPEAKER_01]: that's just not what they do.
[00:45:45] [SPEAKER_01]: And so for a woman,
[00:45:46] [SPEAKER_01]: you don't know where your estrogen is
[00:45:48] [SPEAKER_01]: and your progesterone is and your testosterone,
[00:45:50] [SPEAKER_01]: you don't know where they are
[00:45:51] [SPEAKER_01]: and they're declining as we age.
[00:45:53] [SPEAKER_01]: It's just the way it is.
[00:45:55] [SPEAKER_01]: They don't know how to feel better and mitigate that.
[00:45:59] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'll say my specialty is I help women in midlife
[00:46:06] [SPEAKER_01]: who are confused about what to eat
[00:46:08] [SPEAKER_01]: and what to do to mitigate signs and concerns related
[00:46:11] [SPEAKER_01]: or symptoms and concerns related to paraminopause,
[00:46:14] [SPEAKER_01]: menopause and beyond.
[00:46:15] [SPEAKER_01]: So that's my sweet spot,
[00:46:18] [SPEAKER_01]: though generally like, you know,
[00:46:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I talk about nutrition all in all,
[00:46:22] [SPEAKER_01]: my sweet spot are women in midlife,
[00:46:26] [SPEAKER_01]: again, who are confused about what to eat and what to do
[00:46:28] [SPEAKER_01]: because what you eat will determine
[00:46:32] [SPEAKER_01]: how the journey plays out,
[00:46:34] [SPEAKER_01]: like how the symptoms come up in your life.
[00:46:37] [SPEAKER_01]: And so I have this program
[00:46:39] [SPEAKER_01]: called the Necessary Nutrition Pause Plan
[00:46:41] [SPEAKER_01]: and that is for women and the men that love them,
[00:46:43] [SPEAKER_01]: but it's for women.
[00:46:47] [SPEAKER_01]: When you do the program,
[00:46:49] [SPEAKER_01]: you have clarity about what to eat
[00:46:51] [SPEAKER_01]: and you have peace of mind to know
[00:46:52] [SPEAKER_01]: you're doing the right things and the right steps,
[00:46:55] [SPEAKER_01]: like what to do first, second and third,
[00:46:58] [SPEAKER_01]: and then your journey will be better.
[00:47:01] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, because people say,
[00:47:03] [SPEAKER_01]: well, what results can I expect?
[00:47:05] [SPEAKER_01]: You will have less signs and symptoms
[00:47:07] [SPEAKER_01]: related to paraminopause and menopause period.
[00:47:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Like you just will.
[00:47:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And I know that.
[00:47:15] [SPEAKER_01]: So that is that.
[00:47:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna share my website.
[00:47:18] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna share the easy one.
[00:47:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Is NecessaryVitaminD.com.
[00:47:24] [SPEAKER_01]: So N-E-C-E-S-S-A-R-Y-V-I-T-A-M-I-N-D.com.
[00:47:34] [SPEAKER_01]: NecessaryVitaminD.com.
[00:47:35] [SPEAKER_01]: That will lead to everything else,
[00:47:39] [SPEAKER_01]: but that's where anybody can find the vitamin D
[00:47:42] [SPEAKER_01]: and also the pause plan.
[00:47:46] [SPEAKER_01]: And again, the pause plan is for women
[00:47:47] [SPEAKER_01]: who just need clarity about what to eat and what to do
[00:47:50] [SPEAKER_01]: because I tell you this menopause journey is,
[00:47:54] [SPEAKER_01]: it's a journey and nobody is gonna escape it
[00:47:57] [SPEAKER_01]: if you live this long.
[00:47:58] [SPEAKER_01]: You go get some of it and your estrogen
[00:48:00] [SPEAKER_01]: and your hormones are going to decline.
[00:48:03] [SPEAKER_01]: They just will no matter.
[00:48:05] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's like having the tools to survive it
[00:48:08] [SPEAKER_01]: and do well with it.
[00:48:10] [SPEAKER_01]: So I think that's it.
[00:48:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I know there's so much to talk about guys.
[00:48:14] [SPEAKER_00]: As a pain, will I,
[00:48:17] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if I try some of this stuff.
[00:48:20] [SPEAKER_03]: No.
[00:48:23] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, I just believe that, you know,
[00:48:25] [SPEAKER_00]: you women are so together and us men are just so
[00:48:29] [SPEAKER_00]: not together in a lot of things.
[00:48:32] [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm just like, well, hey, whatever the information
[00:48:35] [SPEAKER_00]: that I can get that's gonna help me
[00:48:38] [SPEAKER_00]: and this woman live a happy and prosperous life,
[00:48:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I wanna take it in.
[00:48:43] [SPEAKER_01]: So.
[00:48:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Well what happens when a man is married,
[00:48:46] [SPEAKER_01]: he will be better.
[00:48:48] [SPEAKER_01]: If you educate that woman,
[00:48:50] [SPEAKER_01]: she's going to take care of her man
[00:48:54] [SPEAKER_01]: and the children and the family.
[00:48:55] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like she's the one and then it'll trickle down.
[00:49:01] [SPEAKER_01]: So I know that.
[00:49:03] [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:49:04] [SPEAKER_01]: That woman will set you straight.
[00:49:06] [SPEAKER_01]: That was first.
[00:49:10] [SPEAKER_01]: And I would say that,
[00:49:14] [SPEAKER_01]: well, I can't say all men are hard headed.
[00:49:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't say that.
[00:49:17] [SPEAKER_01]: That would just be not true,
[00:49:19] [SPEAKER_01]: but some are not easy to sway.
[00:49:26] [SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of times for people,
[00:49:27] [SPEAKER_01]: we don't wanna change until something is wrong.
[00:49:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Right, right.
[00:49:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:49:33] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's funny because I have an uncle
[00:49:37] [SPEAKER_00]: that's going through some,
[00:49:39] [SPEAKER_00]: he's getting up in HIP 70 next year.
[00:49:42] [SPEAKER_00]: So he's got health issues.
[00:49:45] [SPEAKER_00]: He's got testicle cancer.
[00:49:48] [SPEAKER_00]: So we battle with that.
[00:49:50] [SPEAKER_00]: But the one thing that him and I talk all the time,
[00:49:54] [SPEAKER_00]: and he said it's amazing how
[00:49:57] [SPEAKER_00]: with the number of people he'll talk to that are men,
[00:50:03] [SPEAKER_00]: someone will still want to go to the doctor.
[00:50:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Someone will still want to go to the doctor.
[00:50:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't wanna know about all that.
[00:50:11] [SPEAKER_00]: So I ain't going.
[00:50:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
[00:50:12] [SPEAKER_00]: When I go to the doctor,
[00:50:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, man, that is crazy.
[00:50:16] [SPEAKER_00]: He had a friend of his who had the same,
[00:50:19] [SPEAKER_00]: they got diagnosed the exact same time.
[00:50:22] [SPEAKER_00]: But this guy go to the doctor,
[00:50:25] [SPEAKER_00]: didn't get checkups and now he's gone.
[00:50:29] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's like,
[00:50:30] [SPEAKER_00]: it's just, it amazes me how hard headed
[00:50:33] [SPEAKER_00]: in that situation that a lot of men can be.
[00:50:35] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not that guy.
[00:50:36] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not gonna be that guy.
[00:50:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Fear is tough though,
[00:50:39] [SPEAKER_01]: cause it's like you just feel like
[00:50:41] [SPEAKER_01]: if you don't know, it'll go away.
[00:50:42] [SPEAKER_01]: That's not true.
[00:50:44] [SPEAKER_01]: It will get you.
[00:50:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Or ignorance is bliss.
[00:50:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:50:50] [SPEAKER_00]: It was like, well,
[00:50:52] [SPEAKER_00]: and then a lot of them they'll be like,
[00:50:54] [SPEAKER_00]: go to the doctor because the stomach hurts.
[00:50:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, well you got stage four such and such.
[00:50:59] [SPEAKER_00]: That's what happened to my uncle.
[00:51:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I probably could have done something for you.
[00:51:03] [SPEAKER_00]: I wish the doctor probably be like,
[00:51:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I probably could have done something for you
[00:51:06] [SPEAKER_00]: even though you saw me at 40.
[00:51:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
[00:51:08] [SPEAKER_01]: That's what happened to my uncle.
[00:51:09] [SPEAKER_01]: He just got diagnosed with colon cancer
[00:51:12] [SPEAKER_01]: and he had a year of the symptoms.
[00:51:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Now with colon cancer,
[00:51:17] [SPEAKER_01]: once it gives you symptoms,
[00:51:19] [SPEAKER_01]: you're already in a pickle.
[00:51:21] [SPEAKER_01]: So he had symptoms for a year
[00:51:23] [SPEAKER_01]: and then he just couldn't take it anymore
[00:51:25] [SPEAKER_01]: cause he just would not believe
[00:51:26] [SPEAKER_01]: or could not believe that it could be that.
[00:51:29] [SPEAKER_01]: And it was that.
[00:51:31] [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, like I said, y'all,
[00:51:33] [SPEAKER_01]: there's so many,
[00:51:34] [SPEAKER_01]: it's an endless conversation about health and nutrition,
[00:51:38] [SPEAKER_01]: but I'll just leave you with two things.
[00:51:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Again, food will either kill you or keep you alive
[00:51:43] [SPEAKER_01]: and it really matters how your life plays out.
[00:51:46] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, it just does.
[00:51:48] [SPEAKER_01]: And then I would always just say,
[00:51:54] [SPEAKER_01]: be around people that are truly going in the direction
[00:51:59] [SPEAKER_01]: that you wanna go.
[00:52:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause if you don't,
[00:52:03] [SPEAKER_01]: well, you'll go in the direction that they're going.
[00:52:06] [SPEAKER_01]: If you don't wanna go there,
[00:52:07] [SPEAKER_01]: you go in there anyway, if you're with them,
[00:52:09] [SPEAKER_01]: that's just the way it goes.
[00:52:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:52:12] [SPEAKER_01]: That's just the way it goes.
[00:52:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I always say,
[00:52:14] [SPEAKER_01]: not that I don't eat with people that don't eat like me,
[00:52:17] [SPEAKER_01]: but I try not to
[00:52:19] [SPEAKER_01]: because I don't have the willpower.
[00:52:22] [SPEAKER_01]: And if I'm having grilled salmon and broccoli
[00:52:24] [SPEAKER_01]: and they having buffalo chicken wings,
[00:52:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna ask them if I could please have
[00:52:28] [SPEAKER_01]: some of what's on their plate.
[00:52:29] [SPEAKER_01]: No one asks me.
[00:52:31] [SPEAKER_01]: And they take some of my brown rice.
[00:52:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Nobody says that.
[00:52:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Nobody's like, girl,
[00:52:34] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna ask you to do the more.
[00:52:35] I'm gonna ask you to do the more.
[00:52:36] I'm gonna ask you to do the more.
[00:52:37] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna ask you to do the more.
[00:52:37] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna ask you to do the more.
[00:52:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Can I get some?
[00:52:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right?
[00:52:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Nobody's asking me.
[00:52:41] [SPEAKER_01]: But I would tell you this though,
[00:52:43] [SPEAKER_01]: when people go out to eat with me,
[00:52:45] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't say nothing.
[00:52:47] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't tell nobody,
[00:52:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't say don't eat this,
[00:52:49] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't say nothing.
[00:52:51] [SPEAKER_01]: And just because I'm there,
[00:52:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I would say it's a self-accusing spirit.
[00:52:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Just cause I'm there,
[00:52:56] [SPEAKER_01]: they'll start ordering healthier.
[00:52:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah.
[00:53:00] [SPEAKER_01]: I know.
[00:53:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I know I would.
[00:53:02] [SPEAKER_00]: That would be me.
[00:53:03] [SPEAKER_00]: That would be me.
[00:53:05] [SPEAKER_00]: What kind of set up y'all got to do?
[00:53:08] [SPEAKER_01]: As soon as we part ways though.
[00:53:10] [SPEAKER_01]: You're like, let me go get that pizza.
[00:53:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm still hungry.
[00:53:12] [SPEAKER_01]: You know what, give me some wings to go please.
[00:53:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:53:17] [SPEAKER_01]: That's what people do.
[00:53:18] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, eat what you wanna eat.
[00:53:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:53:20] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's been so wonderful to talk to you all.
[00:53:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for having me again.
[00:53:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna say again,
[00:53:29] [SPEAKER_01]: necessaryvitaminD.com.
[00:53:30] [SPEAKER_01]: That's where you can get all kinds of vitamin D
[00:53:33] [SPEAKER_01]: and then also find the link to the pause plan
[00:53:36] [SPEAKER_01]: if you are a woman in midlife confused
[00:53:38] [SPEAKER_01]: about what to eat and what to do
[00:53:41] [SPEAKER_01]: to mitigate the signs and symptoms.
[00:53:43] [SPEAKER_01]: And even if you think you know what to do,
[00:53:47] [SPEAKER_00]: you might wanna check that out.
[00:53:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Get some information.
[00:53:50] [SPEAKER_02]: And we will,
[00:53:51] [SPEAKER_02]: we're gonna make sure when the episode goes out
[00:53:53] [SPEAKER_02]: that all those things are posted
[00:53:55] [SPEAKER_02]: and it can get that checklist to me.
[00:53:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh yes.
[00:53:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Let me write that down.
[00:54:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Make sure that listeners have access to that checklist.

[00:54:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna send it to you.

[00:54:23] [SPEAKER_02]: where you can log in and see the results of your test.
[00:54:26] [SPEAKER_02]: You can at least see what type of results
[00:54:29] [SPEAKER_02]: we have to work with and then go from there.
[00:54:32] [SPEAKER_01]: And let me know,
[00:54:33] [SPEAKER_01]: you can let me know what they are.
[00:54:34] [SPEAKER_01]: And then, yeah, both of you,
[00:54:36] [SPEAKER_01]: if you know what they are,
[00:54:37] [SPEAKER_01]: that would be useful.
[00:54:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause who knows?
[00:54:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe your vitamin D is optimal
[00:54:41] [SPEAKER_01]: and you're good or maybe it's low
[00:54:43] [SPEAKER_01]: and that's part of what is plaguing you.
